Serie A Week 24 Round-up:
Verona 3-3 Inter Milan:
Inter came from 3-1 down to secure a point at bottom club Verona on Sunday morning. Inter started the game the better side and made their early dominance pay when Murillo headed in Brozovic’s corner. But Hellas Verona replied four minutes later when defender Helander headed in a Marrone corner, Verona then took the lead in the sixteenth minute through yet another set piece this time from a Marrone free kick which has met by the head of Pisano. Early into the second half Luca Marrone completed his hat trick of assists with yet another set piece when his corner was met by the onrushing Ionita who headed the ball in from six yards out. But back came Inter when the ball luckily ricocheted back into the path of Ivan Perisic who then played a brilliant ball across the box which Mauro Icardi gratefully finished from six yards to make the game 3-2, Perisic then made 3-3 in the seventy-seventh minute after latching on to a deep Palacio cross, his shot was too strong for the Verona keeper who tried to keep it out. The draw does not help either team in the league with Verona now needing wins to keep them from dropping to Serie B and Inter needing wins to keep the pressure on Fiorentina who occupy third place.
Frosinone 0-2 Juventus:
Juventus kept up the pace with leaders Napoli thanks to a 2-0 win over Serie A new boys Frosinone on Sunday afternoon. Juventus were frustrated in the first half after a good performance from Frosinone keeper Nicola Leali, the young keeper made good saves from Alex Sandro and Sturaro before make an excellent one on one save from Morata when the spanish international looked destined to score. Juventus’s quality showed through in the second half though and they made their breakthrough in the seventy-second minute when Alex Sandro’s pass made it all the way through to Juan Cuardrado on the right hand side who comfortably side footed the ball into the net. Juventus made sure of the points in injury time when Morata gave the ball to Dybala who curled the ball in from 16 yards. Juventus stay just two points behind Napoli while the defeat means Frosinone remain five points from safety.
Roma 2-1 Sampdoria:
Roma moved to within two points of third place with a 2-1 win over Sampdoria on Sunday night. The game had little chances early on in the first half but then on the forty fifth minute Roma had a stroke of luck when El Shaarawy’s shot was deflected into the path of Florenzi who gleefully headed the ball in from eight yards out. Roma were 2-0 up five minutes into the second half after Perotti scored a brilliant volley form eighteen yards after an excellent El Shaarawy flick. Sampdoria then found a route back into the game after Fernando’s shot was deflected in by Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic in the fifty-seventh minute. Sampdoria then came close to equalising in the last minute of the game when Cassani volleyed the ball onto the bar six yards out. Roma are now in fifth and just two points behind third place Fiorentina, Sampdoria meanwhile are still in seventeenth and remain five points from the relegation places.
